Most TNCs investing in developing countries control the exploitation of natural resources. However, the environmental protection standards applied by TNCs in the home state and the host state are not the same. The bad experiences occuring in some developing countries (Indonesia, India, Ecuador, and Nigeria) triggervarious policies to protect the right to enjoy a healthy environment. This study comprehensively analyzes: first, how is the legal policy of the responsibility of TNCs on the right protection to enjoy healthy environment in Indonesia, India, Ecuador, Nigeria and Finland? Second, what are the similarities and differences in its policymaking? This study is a qualitative research with normative and comparative juridical approach. The results of this study concluded that, first, the legal policies of developing countries towards the violation of TNCs responsibilities to enjoy a healthy environment have the same pattern, which is pretty mild in granting sanction, and prioritizing more on the economic growth rather than protecting the right to enjoy healthy environment. Second, the similar legal policy between these countries lies on the fact that they have recognized the right to enjoy healthy environment as a constitutional right and part of human rights. However, the implementation of the legal protection of the right to enjoy healthy environment differs from one country to another

Among factors that affect rice yield are diseases, pests and weeds. It is intractable to model the correlation between plant diseases, pests and weeds on the amount of rice yield statistically and mathematically. In this study, a backpropagation network (BPN) is developed to classify rice yield based on the aforementioned factors in MUDA irrigation area Malaysia. The result of this study shows that BPN is able to classify the rice yield to a deviation of 0.03

Functional data visualization and outlier detection on the anomaly of el nino southern oscillation

The El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is a well-known cause of year-to-year climatic variations on Earth. Floods, droughts, and other natural disasters have been linked to the ENSO in various parts of the world. Hence, modeling the ENSO’s effects and the anomaly of the ENSO phenomenon has become a main research interest. Statistical methods, including linear and nonlinear models, have intensively been used in modeling the ENSO index. However, these models are unable to capture sufficient information on ENSO index variability, particularly on its temporal aspects. Hence, this study adopted functional data analysis theory by representing a multivariate ENSO index (MEI) as functional data in climate applications. This study included the functional principal component, which is purposefully designed to find new functions that reveal the most important type of variation in the MEI curve. Simultaneously, graphical methods were also used to visualize functional data and capture outliers that may not have been apparent from the original data plot. The findings suggest that the outliers obtained from the functional plot are then related to the El Niño and La Niña phenomena. In conclusion, the functional framework was found to be more flexible in representing the climate phenomenon as a whole

Various cases of security breaches and attacks has been experienced globally, and high-level cases of cyber-attacks that threaten security has been documented. Attacks from various hacking groups have been conducted on organizations like the LuzSec, Stuxnet and many others that caused various levels of damages. Recent years have even seen groups that are anonymous in nature, targeting businesses that are highly profiled and other organizations. Some attacks have been conducted with much ease, thereby exposing the existing weaker systems of handling cybercrimes and some breaches have brought along very highly costs incurred on security. Countries have become very vulnerable in particular with the escalating levels of economy and the essential needs of improving infrastructure, in which has made them rely on technology and computer networks. Cyber threats can be categorized into two, and briefly they’ve been explained. This paper evaluates some instances of cyber-attacks in some of the Muslim countries like The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the potential impacts and the possible recommendations that is implemented by governments, can help in raising awareness on cyber-attack issues
